When it comes to beauty bag basics, a good foundation is an absolute essential. Every woman is on the hunt for something that feels good, looks great, lasts, and won’t break the bank. That’s no small task, but RIMMEL seem to think they have it sussed with the new Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation. Two of our intrepid Her.ie reporters decided to put it to the test…

CATHY says:
Finding the perfect foundation is far from an easy task.
For daytime looks, a natural base is best and at night a full-on look works well.
It’s easy to talk about it, but it’s another thing to try find a product that will tick all the boxes.
However, RIMMEL have made a pretty good effort with their latest product. Stay Matte liquid mousse has been marketed as a lightweight mousse which blends flawlessly and controls shine. It also promises a matte finish while also minimising pores.
A big ask, some might say. It’s understandable that we often have a dubious attitude when it comes to new products. There are so many to choose from at the moment that it’s difficult to tell what works and what doesn’t.
The good news is this product delivers and there are six shades to use from. Considering it’s only €7.99, you are getting good value for your money.
The best thing about Stay Matte Liquid Mousse is although it feels natural and airy on your face, it actually delivers good coverage.
The product lasts pretty well although we did notice some shine seeping through after about 5 hours of wear. If you apply your favourite powder on top, which is standard with most foundations, you get seamless coverage.
Easy to apply, good coverage and under a tenner, I think this might become a staple product in my make-up bag.

MICHELLE says:
My skin is darker naturally than Cathy’s and I hold a colour for a few months after any sun exposure at all. I sometimes struggle to find a shade to suit my skin, as anything darker can edge towards an orangey shade – which is the last thing I want! I was in the market for a new foundation anyway, as I think it’s important to reflect the change of season and change of your skintone coming into winter.
I opted for Soft Beige (200). As I have a tendency towards dry skin, I don’t usually opt for mousse formula foundation as my previous trials have resulted in a dry and cakey look. Not so with the Stay Matte formula, however. The airy, lightweight formula went on smoothly, covered evenly, and lasted for the full working day.
I always make sure to use a serum in the mornings, but even reapplying this to go straight from work to an evening event I skipped that step and still found the coverage to hold and last.
The formula here is perfect for me as I don’t like to feel as though I have a lot of makeup on, but I want the coverage that usually comes with heavier foundations. This is the perfect compromise, and I’ve already bought a second tube so I have one at home and one for the office. At the price, this is saving me a fortune on makeup too. Win!
