A posthumous Mac Miller album is going to be released next week.
The 26-year-old was in the middle of recording
Circles, his companion album to
Swimming, when he passed away in 2018.
"Two different styles complementing each other, completing a circle," his family said in a statement. "Swimming in Circles was the concept."
His family said that he had been working with producer Jon Biron before his passing, and that he had "dedicated himself" to finishing the album.
"We are eternally grateful to Jon and those who gave their best to the difficult and emotional task of putting out this body of work," the rapper's family continued.
"This is a complicated process that has no right answer, no clear path," the statement continued. "We simply know that it was important to Malcom for the world to hear it."
They added that "one of the most difficult decisions" in the process had been figuring out the best way to let people know about it, and "how to communicate meaningfully while keeping sacred which should be kept sacred."
"We are left to imagine where Malcolm was going and to appreciate where he was," the statement concluded. "We hope you take the time to listen. The look on his face when everyone was listening said it all."
Circles will be released on January 17.
