Meghan Markle has opened up about the stress of being a new mum in the spotlight.

The Duchess of Sussex was speaking in a preview for ITV's new documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which will air this Sunday. The documentary is set to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the Sussexes' recent royal tour. In a clip released on Friday, Meghan spoke to Tom Bradbury about how she feels about the negative attention she received during her pregnancy, as well as during her first few months as a mum. She said:

“Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging. And then when you have a newborn, you know. And especially as a woman, it’s a lot. “So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed. It’s um…yeah. I guess, also thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m okay, but it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

And when asked if it "would be fair" to say she has been "not really okay, as in it's really been a struggle," Meghan replied: "Yes."

ITV's @tombradby spoke to Meghan as he gained exclusive access to the royal couple as they toured Africa for 10 days with their son Archie.

In another clip from the hour-long programme, Harry tells Tom that his mother's death in 1997 is still "a wound that festers" due to the pressure of public life. "I think being part of this family, and this role, and this job, every single time I see a camera, every single time I hear a click, every single time I see a flash, it takes me straight back. "In that respect ... it’s the worst reminder of her life as opposed to the best." Sounds like a must-watch for royal fans. Harry and Meghan: An African Journey airs on ITV1 at 9pm on Sunday.
