Barack Obama has a little under two months to go until his term as President of the United States comes to an end and the reality begins to dawn on the world that Donald Trump will succeed him as the most powerful man of the planet.
On Tuesday, he hosted his final Presidential Medal of Freedom Ceremony at the White House, honouring 21 recipients from a variety of different fields for their contribution to the United States.
Basketball legends Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hollywood royalty Tom Hanks and Robert De Niro and Bill Gates and his wife Melinda were amongst those honoured on the day, as was Ellen DeGeneres, host of one of the most popular TV chat shows in the world.
It’s nearly 20 years since Ellen publicly came out and Obama celebrated her bravery in doing so, saluting her courage and just how big an impact it had for the LGBT community in the United States.
Obama’s eloquent address caused both himself and Ellen to get a little “choked up” but he managed to immediately lighten the mood in what was a very touching speech; safe to say plenty will miss this guy when he eventually leaves the White House.

Ellen is visably emotional in the clip, but in true Ellen fashion, quickly makes a joke.
