The Australian DJs behind the hoax call to the King Edward VII Hospital regarding the Duchess of Cambridge’s condition could face criminal prosecution.

Scotland Yard has been investigating the circumstances which led up to the tragic death of Jacintha Saldanha and could even bring charges against Mel Greig and Michael Christian.

 

Mel and Michael made the call to the hospital to find out about the Duchess.

The nurse who answered the telephone call, during which the pair were pretending to be members of the Royal Family, was found dead three days after the hoax.

It has not been divulged as to what offences the authorities are considering but according to reports they were examining possible breaches of the Data Protection Act.

If authorities do decide to bring charges, the radio DJs could face extradition from Australia to Britain with Data Protection Act offences being punishable by fines.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Following the death of Jacintha Saldanha, officers have liaised with the Criminal Prosecution Service as to whether any criminal offences had been committed in relation to the hoax call made to King Edward VII hospital in the early hours of Tuesday December 4.”
