Meghan Markle may be called to testify in a civil suit against Prince Andrew, which is being brought by Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre. David Boies, the lawyer representing Virginia, told the Daily Beast that the Duchess of Sussex was someone who could be relied on, which is one of the reasons she will likely be called on to provide a deposition. He believes she may have picked up “important knowledge” about Prince Andrew’s behaviour over the years. "She is somebody we can count on to tell the truth," he said. He went on to reveal that she is being considered because she was "a close associate of Prince Andrew and hence is in a position to perhaps have seen what he did". "Because of her past association with him, she may very well have important knowledge and will certainly have some knowledge," he added. Meghan also lives in the US so is subject to the jurisdiction of the US court. According to the lawyer, she ticks all the boxes. Virginia Giuffre claims she was sexually assaulted by the Duke of York when she was just 17 years old. "I am holding Prince Andrew accountable for what he did to me," she said in a statement. "The powerful and rich are not exempt from being held responsible for their actions. I hope that other victims will see that it is possible not to live in silence and fear, but to reclaim one’s life by speaking out and demanding justice." The hearing has been set for 4 January 2022. District Judge Lewis Kaplan is set to hear arguments from the Duke's legal team to dismiss the suit. If the dismissal plea is rejected, the Judge has said that a civil trial will take place some time between September and December next year. Prince Andrew continues to deny all allegations made against him.
