Sinn Féin's Chris Andrews has been actively involved in community development work in the Dublin Bay South constituency for over sixteen years, working with residents associations, environmental groups, charities and local community projects.
He's also a founding member of the ‘Friends of the Grand Canal’ and a volunteer team leader with the ‘Inner City Helping Homeless’ group. In an interview with Q102, he said: "The smell of urine going down along the streets was absolutely disgusting. It's not something residents should have to out up with. Like you say, there's no simple solution but there has to be a multi-agency response. There has to be Gardai, Waterways Ireland and Dublin City Council. Andrews also said that locals in Portobello and Harold's Cross have blocked their driveways and roads to prevent people from urinating on their houses and throwing rubbish around the streets. He's expected to raise the issue at the next city meeting.
