Your windscreen fluid might not be the most important fluid you put into your car but it is important to keep it topped up especially if you’re driving on those dusty country roads of ours.
As you may well know your window wipers don’t just come in handy for when it’s raining. You can also use them to clean your windscreen but only if you have enough fluid. Speaking of which, here’s how to check it…
1. Park your car on a level surface and wait for the engine to cool down before popping the bonnet and locating the windscreen wiper container (there is usually a symbol on the lid or if all else fails check your vehicle manual).

2. Unlike when checking your oil, you don’t need an instrument to check the windcsreen fluid. In most cars the container is translucent but if you can’t see the level properly, just look down the nozzle. If the container is less than half-full, you need to top it up. While you’re at it, check that the tank isn’t cracked or leaking anywhere.

3. If you are topping up the fluid, do so until the tank is full. It is best to use a funnel in order to avoid spillages. Once you’ve finished, replace the cap and close the hood. Last but not least start the car and check that the washers are working properly. It should be a steady stream of fluid. If it’s not, then you need to clean the washer nozzles as well.
