Your pet might be your best friend but there are some things you need to keep in mind when you are travelling in the car with them.
You might want to have your dog in the front seat with you or let your cat loose in the back but you shouldn’t really be doing it. Here’s what you should be doing...
1. Keep your pet in a well-ventilated, good-sized crate or container. They come in all shapes, sizes and materials so it’s easy to get something that will suit. Secure it in place as well so that it doesn’t move around when you are driving. Don’t let your pet stick its head out the window either. It might look good but it could get injured or worse if you have an accident.

2. Prepare your pet for being on the road by taking it on short journeys at first, gradually extending the length each time. By making it used to the sensation and environment in the car, you decrease the chances of your pet getting jittery.
3. Bring lots of supplies including water, food, plastic bags, medication, an animal first-aid kit, a lead (in case you are forced to stop the car somewhere you had not intended) and a toy (to keep your pet amused).

4. As with a child, you should not leave your pet unattended in a parked vehicle. If you have to leave them for a short period (by short we mean a matter of minutes), put down the window slightly to let some air in.
