There's GOT to be something in the water in Laois.
Only a month ago we saw the steely determination of one Irish GAA fan, Emma Finlay, who left her Debs to help her team Shanahoe to an emphatic 3.11 to 0.01 win against Graiguecullen in the Laois People's First Credit Union Intermediate Championship semi final.
Another girl who has truly defied all the odds for her love of GAA is Mairead Burke, a camogie player for Camross camogie team.
Spotted on JOE.ie, Mairead Burke was minutes into a match playing the Senior Camogie Final against O'Moore's when she got an unholy whack of a hurl which left her a little worse for wear. Despite the thump, Mairead wasn't awarded a free and was left with a woefully painful arm.
The trooper she is, Mairead took a few Panadol and strapped her arm up to solider on and continue playing the match, but it wasn't until she visited A&E after the match that she was told she had in fact, broken her arm... Meaning that Wonder Woman Mairead had played close to an hour of a camogie match with a BROKEN ARM.
Unfortunately, Mairead's bravery wasn't enough to win the final as Camross lost the match by a mere three points, however her tale of playing a match with a broken limb is sure to go down in Camross' and indeed, Her.ie history.
Mairead, if you're reading this, this one's for you...
