Irish soccer star Robbie Keane and his wife Claudine have been invited to meet American President Barack Obama at the opening ceremony of this year’s Special Olympics Games.
The LA Galaxy star and his wife will attend the ceremony in Los Angeles on July 25th this year where they will lead out the Irish squad.
The couple are said to be “touched and excited” at the honour, while President Obama will lead out team USA at the event.
They are said to be looking forward to the event.
“This is such an honour for Robbie, as a sportsperson, and also for Claudine, to be flying the flag – literally – for Ireland and America,” a source close to the couple revealed.
“They will be walking in front of the team when they walk around the running track at the opening event."
Barack and Michelle Obama will lead out team USA.
“Barack Obama and his wife Michelle will be doing the same for the American squad, which shows what a special role it is. They can’t wait!”
The week-long event will see 7,000 athletes from 170 different nations compete in a variety of sports.
