You just couldn't make it up...

It's fair to say that Ireland is a magical little place. Aside from all our tales of lore and long history of witchcraft and myths, there are still things that happen on our little island that make us smile. One certain place that has a history of unusual things happening is the Oireachtas chambers, the Dáil. The Dáil sees many debates, arguments and historic moves which shape the rules and future of our country and the actions of our country's elected  TDs can sometimes make us want to laugh, cry or pull our hair out. Today, a historic movement happened in the Dáil - not by vote or debate - but rather a literal movement in the form of dance. Dun Laoghaire TD for the Anti-Austerity Alliance–People Before Profit party, Richard Boyd Barrett was making an impassioned speech in the Dáil today for the debate on the Misuse of Drugs Bill.

After a long proposal to the Dáil explaining how drugs should be recognised as a health matter and not a criminal matter and outlining the lack of resources for young people in his area, the politician showed his dedication to the youth of Dun Laoghaire by performing a 'dab'. For those of you that aren't quite as hip as the Her team, dabbin' is a dance craze that started over in the States last year and has since made its way over the Atlantic. The move can be performed by bending your arm and looking like you're trying to sniff the crease of your elbow and VOILA. The PBP TD told of his promise to 'dab' in the Dáil, explaining "I don't know what it means but we need to learn what it means... Learn what young people are talking about and what matters to them..."
