Lyra is a "heartfelt film about the life and death of the internationally renowned Northern Irish investigative journalist Lyra McKee."
The trailer for Lyra, the eagerly anticipated documentary about Lyra Mckee, has arrived.
Lyra McKee was a freelance journalist from Derry who was shot dead at a riot in Creggan in April 2019. She was just 29-years-old. A 52-year-old man has since been charged with the murder, while a number of other men were arrested and investigated in connection with it.
In the aftermath of McKee's death, the New IRA took responsibility and said that she was not the intended target.
Now, a new film explores the life Lyra lived, and it features camera-facing footage of Lyra herself. The official synopsis for Lyra describes it as a "beautiful and heartfelt film about the life and death of the internationally renowned Northern Irish investigative journalist Lyra McKee."
It also features commentary and interviews from Lyra's loved ones, and scenes from the Creggan riot. In the trailer, we see clips of Lyra as a young girl, and words she has written about growing up in Derry.
The context of the Troubles forms the backdrop of the film, against which glimpses of Lyra's life and insights from her writing appear. Her family also speak of her legacy, and pledge to continue to push for change and peace for the young people of Northern Ireland.
