The mother-daughter bond shines through.
When we first heard that a documentary featuring never-seen-before footage of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds was to air this weekend, our hearts naturally dropped. We assumed it was unapproved material that was only seeing the light of day because both legendary stars had sadly left us.
Thankfully, that's not the case. Instead the documentary, entitled
Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, is a poignant and entirely sanctioned portrayal of the late mother and daughter's lives together in recent years, as well as a look back at their very public history.
Bright Lights will premiere on January 8 on HBO, and is billed as a portrait of an enduring love. Fisher comments at one point, "I'm my mother's best friend," and it's clear to see that there's a huge warmth and affection between the two late icons.
As directors Alexis Bloom and Fisher Stevens
told People: "We started out making a film about Hollywood royalty, and we ended up making a film about love."
