Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights has become a hot topic, with critics sharply divided in their opinions.
Regardless of opinion, there’s one scene in particular that’s stealing all the attention.
The sultry, contemporary take on Emily Brontë’s 1847 classic, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Cathy and Heathcliff, hit theatres on February 13th.
One quick scroll through TikTok shows some viewers bawling as the credits roll, while others vow to boycott the film entirely.
However, one big difference between the original 1847 novel and Fennell’s adaptation is the number of X-rated, steamy scenes, and there’s one in particular that has the girls losing their minds.
And if you’re as chronically online as we are, you probably already know what we mean. Yep, the scene where Heathcliff and Cathy are talking in the pouring rain outside Wuthering Heights, and he uses his hands to shelter her face.
In the scene, Cathy holds her hands in front of her face to shield her eyes from the torrential rain, and Heathcliff gently replaces them with his own, cupping them over her eyes. Swoon.
Even though it’s very PG, it’s already being called the ‘hottest’ scene and has seriously raised the bar for all partners out there.
One person wrote on X: "The sexiest scene in Wuthering Heights was when Heathcliff was covering Catherine’s eyes from the rain."
"Just the thought of someone thinking to shield someone else instead of themselves is so beautiful," another wrote.
Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie were even asked about the viral scene in an interview with ScreenRant, where the journalist claimed it's one of the 'hottest things she's ever seen'.
Margot gushed: "So romantic," before turning to her co-star and adding, "You still don't understand why that's romantic, do you?"
The actors admitted the moment was not scripted at all. Jacob did it instinctively during rehearsal, and it ended up staying in the film.
Robbie said, "He did that in rehearsal to actually shield my face from the rain, just instinctively, because he's a gentleman.
"And Emerald and I were both like, 'Do that again in the scene, for the whole scene. That was amazing'".
Just when we thought we couldn’t obsess over Jacob Elordi anymore, this scene pushed us over the edge, with fans gushing in the comments.
One person wrote: "The fact he did it instinctively… was not directed to do that" and "I gasped when she said it wasn’t in the SCRIPT."
While another added: "Wow! Not even in the script, and he created the romance himself."
