Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer are set to reprise their roles for the Call Me By Your Name sequel, according to reports.
Director Luca Guadagnino told La Republica that it was a "pleasure to work with" the pair, as he confirmed the news.
"It is a great pleasure to work with Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg, Esther Garrel and the other actors. Everyone will be in the new movie,” he said [via Vogue].
He also recalled how he had meant to fly to the United States to meet with a writer about the second film - however, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, that had to be cancelled.
Guadagnino previously spoke about his hopes for a sequel to the Oscar-nominated film - and revealed that he was working with André Aciman, who wrote the 2007 novel, on ideas.
“I’m already conceiving the story with [author] André Aciman. It’s gonna happen five or six years afterwards, so almost in the 1990s," he previously told USA Today.
“It’s gonna be a new movie, a different tone. You’re gonna see a lot of the East Coast of America… They’re gonna go around the world.”
In 2019, Aciman released a follow-up novel to Call Me By Your Name. Find Me revisits the lives of Elio and Oliver, as well as Elio's father, Samuel.
"In Find Me, Aciman shows us Elio’s father Samuel, now divorced, on a trip from Florence to Rome to visit Elio, who has become a gifted classical pianist," the description for the book reads.
"A chance encounter on the train leads to a relationship that changes Sami’s life definitively. Elio soon moves to Paris where he too has a consequential affair, while Oliver, now a professor in northern New England with sons who are nearly grown, suddenly finds himself contemplating a return visit to Europe."
