And this idea that 'original' is just as fabulous as the newer, 'novel' version, can be applied to many things. It got us thinking of yesterday's 'supermodels' and today's social-media-backed runway pin-ups - they really are the perfect way to highlight that new and legendary can be equally as stunning! Christy Turlington and Gigi Hadid American supermodel Christy (49) holds quite the résumé, having featured on the cover of countless magazine covers including Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, L'Officiel, Tatler and Harper's Bazaar. She has worked with fashion greats during campaigns with Max Mara, Prada, Valentino, Versace, Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent. Impressive. Gigi Hadid (23 year-old sister of Bella) has model genes thanks to mum and former model Yolanda. Her modelling debut came when she was just two-years-old after being discovered by Paul Marciano of Guess clothing. She signed with IMG models in 2013 and has walked for Chanel, Versace, Tommy Hilfiger, Isabel Marant and Miu Miu to name a few. Naomi Campbell and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley So, you might say Naomi (48) is still at the top of the game (she never stops working), but she first caught all eyes when international success came in the mid to late eighties and was originally scouted in London's Covent Garden. The rest is history. Other English beauty, Rosie (31), is best known for her walks on the Victoria's Secret runway and her collaboration with Marks&Spencer. She made her catwalk debut alongside Naomi in 2004. Elle Macpherson and Jourdan Dunn So gorgeous, she became known as 'The Body' after five appearances on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimwear Issue. Australia's Elle Macpherson (54) became a part of the eighties wave of elite super models after heading off to model in the US at the age 20 and nabbing a spot in Elle magazine six whole years in a row. Twenty-eight-year-old Jourdan Dunn is not only a hard-working model but also mum to eight-year-old son Riley. She has graced us with her beautiful presence on catwalks with countless brands including Balmain, Yves Saint Laurent and Burberry. Claudia Schiffer and Winnie Harlow German beauty Claudia Schiffer (47) rose to international fame in the 90s and currently holds the record for the model with the most magazine covers (over 1,000) according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Winnie Harlow (24) was in fact born Chantelle Brown-Young in Ontario Canada and is of Jamaican ancestry. Although she didn't win it, she was in fact discovered on America's Next Top Model alongside host Tyra Banks. She was diagnosed with the chronic skin condition vitiligo at age four, and although she has said it didn't help matters in the playground, it became one of her most defining and celebrated features later on. Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber While it was Cindy (52) turning heads in the 80s and 90s, now it's 16 year-old daughter Kaia's turn. Crawford has walked runways for countless fashion houses including Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Valentino and has well over 500 magazine covers under her belt. Both mum and daughter appeared together on the cover of Vogue Paris in August 2016 and there's no doubt Kaia is on the way to building her own success story. Kate Moss and Karlie Kloss Croydon born Kate Moss (44) was first spotted by Sarah Doukas - founder of Storm Model Management - at JFK Airport in New York. She became super famous in the mid 90s when 'heroin-chic' was taking over the 'supermodel' era. Karlie Kloss (26) has been a Victoria's Secret angel since 2011 AND has helped set up Kode With Klossy - and initiative that helps young girls learn how to code. (Yep, she's brainy too!) She has worked with a whole host of big fashion brands and publishers, while in 2016 she made the cover of Vogue along with one of her famous besties - Miss Taylor Swift. Linda Evangelista and Hailey Baldwin Linda (53) is one of the most accomplished models ever. The Canadian beauty signed with Elite in the 80s and from there her career exploded. Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel once said, "There is not a model in the world as professional as she is." Hailey Baldwin (21), daughter of actor Stephen Balwin (Alec Baldwin's brother), signed with Ford Models and soon after, made her first runway debut walking for Topshop in 2014. She's currently engaged to Justin Bieber. Helena Christensen and Ashley Graham Danish beauty, Helena (49) represented her home country in the 1986 Miss Universe beauty pageant and soon after headed off to Paris to pursue a career in modelling. During the 90s she appeared on over 600 magazine covers including Harper's Bazaar, W and Elle. Ashley Graham (30) - the supermodel body activist - has made it her mission for women of all sizes to feel good about themselves, both on and off the runway. In 2003 she signed with Ford Models and has since been on the cover Glamour, Harper's Bazaar and the Sports Illustrated annual swimsuit issue (2015). Her book - A New Model: What Confidence, Beauty, and Power Really Look Like - gives insight into the modelling world and aims to continue her mission to vouch for self-acceptance. Iman and Kendall Jenner Born Zara Mohamed Abdulmajid, Iman (63) was attending the University of Nairobi studying political science when she was spotted by an American photographer. She soon jetted off to the US, where she would bring a unique look to the fashion world, making a big name for herself. Iman's first modelling shoot was for Vogue in 1976. Kendall Jenner (22) - member of (probably) the most famous family in the world - is now one of the most followed celebrities on Instagram. She has been on the cover for various Vogue magazines around the world, has become the face of Éstee Lauder and in 2017, she was Forbes' highest earning model (estimated at $22 million). Milla Jovovich and Stella Maxwell Ukrainian model Mila Jovovich (42) landed her first magazine cover at the age of 11, and although she has claimed her mother raised her to be an actress, her first taste of fame was walking runways. She has worked with brands including Dior, Versace, Armani and in 2004 was Forbes' highest earning model, nabbing a cool $10.5million. Twenty-eight-year-old New Zealand model, Stella, was born in Belgium to Northern-Irish parents. At age 14, the family moved to New Zealand and eventually when she attended the University of Otega, she was discovered as a model. She is best known for being a Victoria's Secret Angel since 2015. Tyra Banks and Bella Hadid We probably know Tyra (44) best from all her years hosting America's Next Top Model, but she was indeed a Victoria's Secret Angel from 1997 to 2005. She was also the first African-American woman to star on the cover of GQ and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Bella (21) was an avid equestrian and had dreamt of going professional, but in 2013 she began suffering from chronic Lyme disease and was forced to take better care of herself, pushing her horse-riding to the side. She signed to IMG Models in 2014 and hasn't looked back since, walking for big names like Diane von Fürstenberg, Bottega Veneta and Balmain. There you have it. When we're talking about the best in any particular field, all bring their own characteristics to the fore, and undoubtedly, they'll be compared to the 'greats' of the past, but they grab our attention just as before, and undoubtedly they're superb at what they're there to do.
