Back in 1991, Silence of the Lambs shook humanity to its core. Based on the Thomas Harris novel of the same name, the film redefined the standard that could be expected in the horror/thriller genre, scooping up pretty much every Oscar that year and scaring audiences in their droves while it was at it. The subsequent prequels to the movie weren't as well received despite boasting decent casts and a returning Hannibal Lecter. Hannibal the TV series, however, quickly amassed a cult following and - despite being cancelled by NBC in its third season - is considered to be one of the best horror TV series of all time. Which is exactly why an upcoming series following directly on from the events of Silence of the Lambs may actually have a whole lot of promise - in theory, anyway. According to Deadline, CBS has ordered a pilot episode of Clarice - a new series detailing the life and work of FBI agent Clarice Starling, one year after her altercation with Dr Lecter. Written and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, the series will follow Clarice as she re-enters the field and tackles a host of new cases involving murderers and sexual predators. “After more than 20 years of silence, we’re privileged to give voice to one of America’s most enduring heroes – Clarice Starling,” said Kurtzman and Lumet. “Clarice’s bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark. But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory. Her time is now, and always.” The project is expected to begin casting soon.
