The film is said to be in early developmental stages and Damian Shannon and Mark Swift have been tasked with penning the comedy-adventure. The pair have previously worked on Friday the 13th and Freddy vs. Jason, while producer Tripp Visson is also a horror veteran, with credits on The Number 33 and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Did Disney just get a little darker?!
Aladdin is originally an Arabic folk tale which features in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, also known as The Arabian Nights.
The tale was adapted for screen by Disney in 1992 with the late, great Robin Williams voicing the genie in one of his most memorable roles. As yet, there are no details on who will take on the role for the forthcoming film.

Live-action films have proved hugely successful for Disney as of late, with Maleficent and Cinderella becoming box-office hits and a new take on Beauty and the Beast on the way, starring Emma Watson as Belle.
