"Went out for it, didn't get the role, but anyway!"
Sebastian Stan is doing pretty well for himself.
His early career had him doing a few episodes in Gossip Girl, being the bad guy in hunky warlock movie The Covenant, and standing out in bit-parts in big movies like Black Swan and Hot Tub Time Machine.
Then, in 2011, it all changed.
He was cast as Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger, and he's become a cornerstone in one of the most successful movie franchises in cinematic history.
Stan also got his own spin-off show off the back of the MCU, while his non-Marvel projects have proven to be equally interesting, including I Tonya, The Martian, and Logan Lucky.
2022 has already given us his impressive performance in Pam & Tommy, and he's following that up with another Disney+ exclusive, new dark horror comedy Fresh.
In the run-up to the release of that movie, JOE.ie was lucky enough to chat to Sebastian Stan about his role, and you can check out that interview in full right here:
While watching the movie, we couldn't help but notice some similarities between Stan's role as Steve, and a particularly famous fictional billionaire who was eventually portrayed onscreen by an Irish actor.
When we brought this up, Stan absolutely agreed, revealing that he'd actually gone for that famous role himself.
Stan told JOE: "I've actually never seen Fifty Shades of Grey. Went out for it, didn't get the role, but anyway!
"Yes, I think this is someone who has a very specific way of life, and has figured out a way to make that work for them. And in the most psychopathic, narcissistic way, is coming at it from trying to find a willing partner in this world.
"That is what I think is terrifying about it," Stan continues. "Because he's so strongly looking for that and has learned how to be very good at manipulating his way through society.
"And of course the challenge becomes for Noah [Daisy Edgar Jones' character] to psychologically out-manoeuvre him in this maze that he's put her into.
"And then it becomes a bit more complicated than just your regular kind of protagonist-antagonist story, it sort of becomes a weird chess story between two people."
Fresh is available to watch on Disney+ from Friday, 18 March.
