The non-profit works to put 'an end to the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness' through work with leading scientists to make a difference in the lives of teens and adults.
Close's sister, Jessie, lives with bipolar disorder, and her nephew, Calen, has schizoaffective disorder, making the cause a personal one for the actress.
Speaking on her Instagram on the event, Close told her followers about the origin of the award:
"A number of years ago, for Bring Change to Mind, Robin William's kids, Zak, Zelda, and Cody, established the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award. This year they have decided to honour Ryan Reynolds.
So, as you can imagine, we are going to have an amazing evening. Robin's kids will be there, as will a lot of other wonderful people."
Every year, the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter award is given out by the later actor's children, Zak, Zelda, and Cody, in honour of their father who lost his life to suicide in August of 2014.
It's amazing to see Robin Williams still being remembered for the laughter he brought to the world after all these years.
