Prime Video has added some must-see movies to the platform this week.
With everything from romance, to comedies, action, thrillers, mysteries, and arguably the greatest sports documentary ever made.
A nice August gift for all Prime Video subscribers! Here are the 24 new movie additions to the streaming service that caught our attention this week:
ANNIE HALL
On the one hand, it is one of the best romantic comedies of all time. On the other hand... Woody Allen. So... yeah, dealer's choice on this one.
DEAR JOHN
Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried try to recreated the (Nicolas) Spark(s) of The Notebook in this heartfelt rom-dram.
DIVERGENT
The movie series that so wanted to be the next Hunger Games, but mostly failed, despite a very impressive cast list. Both of the sequels, Allegiant and Insurgent, have also been added to Prime Video.
FOXY BROWN
Pam Grier headlines this iconic blaxplotation movie about a woman who takes on a gang of drug dealers who killed her boyfriend.
GEOSTORM
A machine designed to control the weather gets out of control and only Gerard Butler can save us. There is a sequence involving a tidal wave... which isn't weather, but has to do with tectonic activity, but we don't think the movie makers gave it much thought, to be honest. So you probably shouldn't, either.
GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST
Matthew McConaughey is haunted by the ghosts of his ex-girlfriends (who aren't dead, by the way), in this not-great rom-com featuring a pretty great supporting cast, including Emma Stone, Jennifer Garner and Michael Douglas.
THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD
The pairing of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson is a great one, and their chemistry helps get this mediocre action comedy over the line.
JACK AND JILL
Adam Sandler and Adam Sandler (not a typo) star in one of the worst comedies ever made.
THE NEON DEMON
The director of Drive took on this psychological horror set within the world of modelling and fame. Elle Fanning is tremendous as the latest person to be seduced by the glitz and glamour.
RED DAWN (1984)
32-year-old Patrick Swayze heads up a group of teenagers who need to defend their sleepy Colorado town from invading Russian soldiers. 52% on Rotten Tomatoes feels generous.
RED DAWN (2012)
29-year-old Chris Hemsworth heads up a group of teenagers who need to defend their sleepy Washington town from invading North Korean soldiers. 14% on Rotten Tomatoes feels about right.
RETURN TO ME
David Duchovny and Minnie Driver star in this likeable enough rom-com-dram about a man who discovers that the woman he is falling in love with received a heart transplant from his late wife.
REVERSAL OF FORTUNE
Jeremy Irons won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in this true-life mystery of a man accused of the murder of his wife (Glenn Close).
SING
Loads of famous people provide the voices for this very entertaining animated musical.
SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION
An early CV entry for Will Smith, as a young con man who enters the lives of a rich couple (Stockard Channing and Donald Sutherland). It is actually a pretty decent comedy-drama.
SHERLOCK HOLMES
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law make for a tremendous duo as Holmes and Watson in this big budget action thriller version of the famous detective. Prime Video has also added A Game Of Shadows, the just-as-good sequel.
SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE
12 years after a one night stand, two people (Alison Brie and Jason Sudekis) reunite in the hopes of maintaining a platonic relationship as they are both with significant others... but things don't go according to plan. A good, grown-up rom-com.
THE SWITCH
A man (Jason Bateman) swaps out his semen for a donated batch set to be used by the woman (Jennifer Aniston) he's secretly in love with. A truly terrible, TERRIBLE set-up for a rom-com.
V FOR VENDETTA
Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving headline this above-average graphic novel adaptation set in an alternative future version of Britain which has given in to totalitarian rule.
WAITING...
Ryan Reynolds again, this time in a pretty weak comedy about the staff at a restaurant and the ways they deal with their near constant boredom.
WHEN WE WERE KINGS
The Oscar-winning documentary centred around the most famous boxing match of all time: the "Rumble in the Jungle" between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. The movie is currently a Prime Video exclusive.
