I got the chance to sit down with iconic funnyman Pat Shortt and director of incredible films Eden and Pure Mule Declan Recks to chat about their brilliant new comedy, The Flag.
The Flag tells the tale of Irish builder Harry Hambridge, a man slightly down on his luck living in the UK with his pet rat. A bachelor, entirely free of responsibilities or burdens, Harry seems lost on his way in life - but upon returning to Ireland for his father’s funeral, discovers something very important about his grandfather in 1916.
Harry comes to know that his grandfather was one of the men to raise the tricolour over the GPO during the 1916 Rising and when challenged by opponents in his local pub, decides to set out on a journey to retrieve the original flag.
Based on a true story from co-producer Robert Walpoole, Harry, alongside a group of lovable comrades embark on a hilarious trip to the UK to infiltrate security to retrieve said flag and what entails is a comedy caper full of friendship, loyalty, love and most importantly, patriotism.
I chatted to Pat and Declan about how The Flag came to our screens, how inevitable laughter was prevented on set and how Pat prepared for THAT underwear scene in the film.
If that interview wasn’t enough information for you eager beavers, you can take a look at the film’s trailer here.
The Flag bursts into Irish cinemas the 14th October and it’s certainly not one to be missed.

We’re finally getting an America’s Next Top Model documentary America’s Next Top Model was a huge part of pop culture in the early 2000s, and despite its flaws, the show was one of our favourite things to watch back in the day. It was the drama, the glamour, the icon that is Tyra Banks, and […]
