Louis is heading into the dark underbelly of the US once again.

Louis Theroux may have moved on from making light-hearted and quirky documentaries, but he's never lost his charm and impact when looking at darker subjects such as racial tensions, mental health and drug epidemics. Really, you could do a lot worse than spending a night in watching his Dark States series, which is great news since RTÉ2 is showing his documentary, Dark States - Murder in Milwaukee at 9.30pm tonight. Louis will be venturing into Milwaukee, a city in the state of Wisconsin mired by ferocious poverty, racial tensions and high rates of gun crime and homicide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH7HHQ7QZc4 Spending time with the city's police department as they patrol District 5, which is home to some of the most dangerous streets in the US, with a homicide rate twelve times above the national average, he follows the homicide department as they investigate one such killing. Arriving in the city at a time when relations between the African-American community and police have soured, he attempts to understand the climate by spending time with a family who lost a member to gun crime, a reformed criminal turned social activist and communities as a whole, which lack almost all faith in the city authorities.
