Now a new minute-long video has replaced the original “viewer warning card” that was displayed at the beginning of the first episode, with members of the cast addressing the difficult issues that the show touches on.
“13 Reasons Why is a fictional series that tackles tough, real-world issues, tackling sexual assault, substance abuse, suicide and more,” starts the video.
Research found that after the first series of the show premiered last year, there was a 26 percent increase in internet searches for “how to commit suicide”, with many countries introducing age ratings on the platform to prevent children under the age of 18 from watching it.
The second series of the show is due to be released later this year although no air date has been given as of yet.
The new video warning will be added to the beginning of the next season as well as to any other episodes that contain particularly graphic and upsetting content.Explore more on these topics:
