It's a crucial stage in the evolution of a binge-watch: reaching that moment with a new show where you go from being a casual, one-episode-a-night viewer, to a stay-awake-until-4am-to-finish-a-season addict.
Netflix has just released the results of a study into Irish and British viewers' behaviour that pinpoints that precise episodes that hooked them into a series.
The streaming site researched the responses to 30 shows to find the moments - and storylines - that kept 70% of members watching to the end of a show's season.
So, for instance, with
Making A Murderer, episode 4 was the clincher. That's the episode where the since-exonerated Brendan Vassey made his unexpected confession, and we started seeing the scale of the apparent tampering of evidence involved.

Meanwhile, the most recent sensation,
Stranger Things, had us all hooked by episode 3, which centred on Barb’s nightmare in the upside down, and in which we got a better look at the Demogorgon.

It took a bit longer for addiction to set in when it came to shows with a lot of episodes-per-season (over 20): for example,
The Good Wife, on average, made binge-watchers of audiences by episode 5.
And with
Gilmore Girls, it took to episode 7, where Rory has her first kiss with Dean, and then Lorelai invites him over for their movie night.
