The price increase comes into effect from today.
Netflix has announced a price increase for all Irish customers, which will come into effect from today (Thursday, 10 March).
The three tiers available to Irish customers will all see the price increased, with new members paying the increased prices immediately, while existing customers will have 30 days prior notice (by email), timing dependant on the specific member’s billing cycle.
The price increases are as follows:
Basic Package: €7.99 to €8.99 (£5.99 to £6.99 in the UK)
Standard Package: €12.99 to €14.99 (£9.99 to £10.99 in the UK)
Premium Package: €17.99 to €20.99 (£13.99 to £15.99 in the UK)
Netflix previously raised the costs of some of its packages in Ireland in March 2021, but this represents the first price increase for the Basic Package in eight years.
The difference in the packages effectively comes down to the resolution of the images on the screen, with the Basic Package streaming SD (480p), the Standard Package streaming Full HD (1080p), and the Premium Package streaming HDR and Ultra HD (4k).
A spokesperson from Netflix made the following statement regarding the new price plans:
"We have always been focused on providing our members both quality and clear value for their membership. Our updated prices reflect the investment we have made in our service and catalogue, and will allow us to continue making the series, documentaries and films our members love as well as investing in talent and the creative industry. We offer a range of plans so members can choose a price that works best for them."
Last week, Disney+ announced the launch of a cheaper subscription service, in exchange for the appearance of adverts during the streamed shows and movies.
