The Gloaming were the big winners at last night's Meteor Choice Awards, walking away with Album Of The Year for their self-titled debut.
The band is made up of fiddle player Martin Hayes, sean-nos singer Iarla Ó'Lionáird, guitarist Dennis Cahill, fiddle player Caoimhín O'Raghallaigh and pianist Thomas Bartlett and the group have garnered rave reviews since they kickstarted their career with a National Concert Hall date.
While The Script'svictory in the public vote for Song Of The Year might have gone down like a lead balloon among attendees, many of whom would have liked to see the accolade go to an emerging act, there are few who would argue that the innovative yet traditional craft of The Gloaming was a deserving winner.
