The show follows a cult leader's relationship with a pop star.
If you feel like you've had a Euphoria-shaped hole in your heart since season two ended a few months ago, then you might not have to wait until the new season for that gap to be filled.
The Idol is a brand new drama from Sam Levinson, the creator of Euphoria, as well as Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, or The Weekend as he is more commonly known. The trailer dropped earlier this week and it looks seriously dreamy. According to HBO, the series is "set against the backdrop of the music industry" and "centers on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol."
You can watch the trailer below.
I mean, we're intrigued.
If the compelling plot line wasn't enough to reel you in, then maybe the all-star cast will. As well as being part of the creative team, The Weekend has a starring role as the cult leader, playing opposite Lily-Rose Depp as Jocelyn, a rising star. But that's not all. Pop music fans will be delighted to see the likes of Troye Sivan and Blackpink's Jennie Kim stepping into featured roles on The Idol.
Other big names on the show's billing include Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), Jane Adams (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Dan Levy (Schitt's Creek), Rachel Sennott (Shiva Baby), Hari Nef (And Just Like That, Transparent) and Hank Azaria (The Simpsons).
We don't have a release date for The Idol just yet. HBO has said that it's simply "coming soon", but you better believe we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for any updates as they come in.
As for season three of Euphoria, it seems we'll be waiting even longer for a premiere date, though Zendaya did share recently the plot lines she'd like to see covered in the upcoming series.
