Hughie said that the makeup artist on Dancing with the Stars used the same foundation on him as she used for Jamelia.

On Sunday night, Hughie Maughan appeared on Dancing with the Stars sporting an unusually dark tan. This sparked a huge reaction from viewers, with many people on Twitter making the same joke. https://twitter.com/Herdotie/status/820708203990253569 When asked about what happened by Ryan Tubridy on his RTE Radio One show, Hughie claimed the makeup artist was something to do with it.

“What happened was I got to the studios and I started sweating because we’d been rehearsing all day in these massive heavy clothes underneath all the lights'' “I had to constantly wipe my face and I ended up looking like a Dalmation.'' He said. “It was all patchy so we had to get this foundation you’d normally use for African skin - it was actually the same foundation the makeup artist used for Jamelia on the Voice. “It was obviously for a black person and I’m white.'' He explained.

Now, however, Lisa O' Connor, the makeup artist in question has hit back claiming that she was not involved.

"I can't believe he is blaming me.'' She told the Irish Daily Mail. "I am devastated by his comments. I had nothing to do with his Hughie's make-up. "He came to the show on Sunday and kept piling on more and more tan and in his own admission 'for more publicity'."

Lisa said that Hughie “kept piling more and more tan” and wouldn’t stop even when she warned he would look “ridiculous”.

"It is devastating to have people blame me. It's a shame that such a handsome, funny, charismatic man feels need to make a mockery of himself on TV for more attention."
