It's looking fairly unlikely that Love Island will be returning to our TV screens this June. Due to coronavirus, everybody's favourite ITV reality dating show may have to be put on hold for the safety of the contestants and crew... as well as the fact that you can't self isolated on a packed plane to Majorca. The series, which was due to return this June, was in the process of casting before the spread of coronavirus led to the shut down of other TV filming schedules. And although June is still a long way away (how is it still March, honestly), such a massive series does require a lot of forward planning - planning that likely won't be able to be carried out entirely remotely. The Sun on Sunday reports that it is "highly unlikely" that the series will be returning as planned in June. A source told the publication that even if social distancing recommendations are lifted in the UK by this time, pulling the show together so close to the start date wouldn't be that easy. "A huge amount of work goes into Love Island and to pull everything together in a very short space of time would be near impossible," they said. “Casting aside, they need to think about all the paperwork necessary, the show’s insurance and all the tests that cast members must undergo. “The team are also very conscious that if overseas travel restrictions are not lifted in time, filming in Mallorca as normal will be ruled out of the question." The source added that there would also be a risk of cast and crew members leaving the show if their family members because extremely ill during filming. “All the signs are pointing towards the show not airing," they said. This comes after EastEnders shut down filming last week due to Covid-19 fears. The UK closed schools, colleges, and childcare facilities on Friday.
