Netflix is reportedly working on plans for a House of Cards spin-off.

It emerged on Monday evening that the political drama was set to end with its upcoming sixth series. But now Variety reports that there are a number of ideas to continue the story - kind of. The publication notes that there are three ideas being explored, all of which take place in the same world as House of Cards.  One of the ideas centres around Doug Stamper, the political aide played by Michael Kelly for the first five series. Ex House of Cards producer Eric Roth is set to write the potential series, while the other two ideas don’t have writers attached to them at the moment. House of Cards, whose sixth and final season is currently in production, was cancelled by the streaming giant on Monday evening. The news came on the same day that Kevin Spacey, who plays the role of Frank Underwood in the hit US political show, made an apology to Anthony Rapp after he accused him of making a sexual advance towards him when he was a child. Rapp, who is now 46 but was 14 years of age at the time, said Spacey invited him to a party and seemed drunk when the alleged incident happened in New York in 1986. Despite the timing of the announcement, it's reported that Netflix have claimed the decision to end the show after its sixth season was made months ago and was unrelated to the recent news concerning Spacey. On the allegations against Spacey, a joint statement from the two companies said:

“Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey. “In response to last night’s [Sunday] revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. “As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”
