Gogglebox was just one of many Channel 4 shows nominated for awards at last night's ceremony, including It's a Sin, which to the surprise of many didn't pick up a single award.
Following Gogglebox's win, Chief executive of Studio Lambert, Stephen Lambert, took the opportunity to address the UK government's plan to privatise Channel 4.
He said: "Googlebox might have ended when it started nine years ago as it got modest ratings, but a publicly owned risk-taking Channel 4 believed in it and they stuck with it.
"If the government go ahead with its destructive plan to end Channel 4, these kinds of risks will not be taken and a big part will have ended for no good reason."
The network recently shared its alternative plan to privatisation in a bid to keep the station publicly owned including creating jobs outside of London, investing in career opportunities for young people who may not otherwise have a career in the media, and to contribute £11 billion to the Uk economy each year.Explore more on these topics:
