'Nobody puts Baby in the corner.'

Valentine's weekend is here once again and whether you're planning something romantic or a night in/ video call with the gals one thing you can't beat in a little rom-com movie session. There are so many great romantic films but for this article I'm just going to keep it to some of my favourites from the 80s and 90s.

1. Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancing is just one of those movies that you have to leave on if you spot it on the telly, even if you've seen it 500 times before. Set in the 1960s it sees a sheltered Francis AKA Baby learn all about life, love and a bit of dirty dancing when she agrees to partner up with professional dancer Johnny Castle for the summer. I had also completely forgotten that Kelly Bishop (Emily from Gilmore Girls) was Baby's mother in it until I rewatched it recently.

2. Clueless

Absolutely no rom-com fest would be complete without Clueless. Like, if you did totally forget it, you would be totally bugging. A 1990s Valley Girl take on Jane Austen's classic tale Emma, between the fashion, the slang and the extremely early 90s 'It crowd' cast, Clueless is just absolutely iconic.

3.Pretty in Pink

Pretty in Pink is by far my favourite out of the John Hughes movies of the 1980s. It's a pretty formulaic tale of the quirky girl, Andie, who just about all the boys want, from her best friend, to the school douche bag to the school douche bag's best friend. I'm not going to lie I find some of Andie's choices, prom dress and boyfriend wise questionable but it's still one of my favourite films of all time. Plus the soundtrack is amazing.

4. Pretty Woman

Another title with pretty in it on the list is of course Pretty Woman. One of the most successful films of the 1990s and still one of the most beloved romance films, if you want to binge a film or two this Valentine's day, this needs to be one of them.

5. 10 Things I Hate About You

I don't think 10 Things I Hate About You really gets the recognition it deserves as a rom-com but it's always been one of my favourites. A modern retelling of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, it sees new kid at school Cameron attempt to date the popular Bianca. But there's a catch, Bianca can't date until her older sister Kat does and Kat could not be less interested in boys and going to the prom. Enter a very young Heath Ledger, ready to sing and make a fool of himself to change her mind. Seriously stick this on your list, you won't regret it.
