We're very intrigued by this new take Dorian Gray.

Dorian Gray is probably one of the best known novels by Irish author Oscar Wilde and while there have been many stage and screen adaptations I don't think there's been one quite like this. Fionn Whitehead and Stephen Fry are set to star in new Dorian Gray but in this version Gray is a social media influencer which we've got to admit, seems acurate to his personality. The new adaption of the classic tale of a man determined to remain young and beautiful forever will see Dorian Gray transported into “a profile pic-obsessed, filter-fixated world where online and reality blur”. The plot centers around online influencer Gray who makes a deal for his social star to never fade. Similar to how Dorian Gray never wanted to age this version of Gray is via for what many what in the age of social media - to remain popular forever. It's an interesting look at how a lot of us use smoke and mirrors and social media to feed our egos and like the original tale as the message that nothing truly lasts forever.

This will not be the first time that Fry has worked on an Oscar Wilde project as the veteran actor portrayed the author in a 1997 biopic Wilde. The idea for this new stage adaptation that will be available to stream, came about as a way for theater to survive during the pandemic. The show which stars Dunkirk star Fionn Whitehead in the title role, Joanna Lumley as Lady Narborough, Russell Tovey as Basil Hallward and Stephen Fry as the Interviewer will be available to stream from 16-31 March.
