Fair City is an Irish TV staple.
The Dublin-based soap is celebrating its 30th year on air - however, it almost didn't make it to its 2nd.
Tony Tormey, who plays Paul, has been on the show since its very first episode and has revealed that it was cancelled during its debut season before being reprieved.
He told the
Irish Sun: “I remember we were shooting on scene since August and we had one episode before we hit the Christmas break.
“There was just one scene left and we heard it was going to be cancelled by the Director General at the time.
“They had brought in someone who had worked on
EastEnders but the English way didn’t work for
Fair City. So someone convinced them to give it another go.
“They brought in an Irish writer and it turned it around. The ratings were great and the formula started changing, it started focusing on humans and families.”
There will be "explosive" scenes in Carrigstown tonight as the soap celebrates its 30th year with an hour long episode. It's surely not to be missed.
