For decades, the world has been fascinated by Marilyn Monroe and her untimely death at the age of 36.
Now, a new Netflix documentary is attempting to find the real answers to the questions surrounding her fatal overdose.
The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes will use never-before-heard recordings to paint a new picture of the icon - and either debunk or prove some of the conspiracy theories about her death.
The trailer teases small snippets of the previously unreleased audio, as well clips of Marilyn speaking about the impact fame had on her life.
"Marilyn and the truth. It’s like going into the lion’s den," a narrator can be heard saying, as images and videos of the star play in the background. "I did indeed find out things that have not been found out before."
The film's enticing tagline reads: "The brighter the star, the darker the truth.”
Marilyn was loved by millions for her 'blonde bombshell' persona and her portrayal of iconic characters in films such as Some Like it Hot and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
However, she struggled intensely with addiction and mental health issues in her personal life. This new documentary will also delve into the darker parts of her life, which she hid from the world.
The official synopsis reads: “Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe’s tragic death spawned conspiracies and rumors for decades, often overshadowing her talent and shrewdness.
“By piecing together her final weeks, days and hours through previously unheard recordings of those who knew her best, this feature illuminates more of her glamorous, complicated life, and offers a new perspective on that fateful night.”
The documentary has been directed by Emma Cooper and produced by Library Films - the company behind the several other popular Netflix documentaries such as Tiger King and Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened.
