Like many other shows this year, The Great British Bake Off had to put off filming due to the pandemic. But once the team were able to start shooting again they got straight to work. You will not be disappointed with the series that's in store considering how much work went into actually getting the episodes filmed. The whole crew and cast had to go into isolation for six weeks for filming to go ahead! Now that's dedication. Anyone who watched GBBO knows how special it is and the year just wouldn't be the same without it. And now after hearing how much of a "mammoth sacrifice" the whole team made, it just makes this series even sweeter. So, how did they make it work? Speaking to Broadcast Now, Kieran Smith, creative director at Love Productions, said: "So many people rely on Bake Off for work that we knew we had to work out a plan." He explained how they rented out a location in July in the south-east, which housed all cast and crew and around 20 "children, chaperones and dog walkers". The team had to self-isolate for nine days and take three Covid tests before entering the hotel to start filming the series. What was filming like? Once they got the all-clear that's when the tough work started. In order to get everything filmed in six weeks they had a "gruelling" schedule consisting of "two days on, two days off." Smith said: "It was a massive operation, we even built 12 practice kitchens for the bakers to use on their days off." They only had one COVID scare in the whole six weeks of filming which turned out to be just a scare and nothing more - thankfully. When will it be on?  It was officially announced today that the new series of Bake Off kicks off on Tuesday, September 22 on Channel 4. Aside from all the delicious food to watch while your mouth waters, there's also a brand new cast member who joined the team this season. Managing director Letty Kavanagh spoke about how new host Matt Lucas fit in on set with the crew and cast: "He was practically living with the bakers," he said. "It felt like he had always been there." The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 later this year.
