This season of The Summer I Turned Pretty leaves a lot to be desired
The final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty has returned with new weekly episodes on Amazon Prime.
Viewers of the young adult fiction series were thrilled to see the show return, but everyone has the same complaint about the new episodes.
When the series returns, Belly has started attending college, but fans were disappointed to see her follow her boyfriend Jeremiah rather than follow her own path.
Belly is attending Finch College and spending a little too much time with Jeremiah.
On her first day at Finch, her mum encourages her to write her own story rather than being a character in Jeremiah's, but it looks like their relationship takes over Belly's college experience.
Within the first two episodes, Jeremiah lies to Belly, cheats on her, and then proposes to her out of guilt.
She also second-guesses her decision to go to Paris in case it upsets him.
Viewers couldn't help but express their disappointment in Jeremiah and Belly's relationship.
One wrote, "Watching the summer I turned pretty and oh my god is Jeremiah unbearable."
Another said, "Boycotting the summer I turned pretty until belly breaks it off with Jeremiah. I physically can’t watch it."
One added, "started watching season 3 of the summer I turned pretty and omg every moment of belly and Jeremiah together on the screen is pissing me off."
The backlash over Jeremiah's character has been intense, with many people saying they can't enjoy the show because of him.
Actor Christopher Briney, who plays Conrad Fisher, defended co-star Gavin Casalegno.
He told Vanity Fair, "If people are liking or not liking your character, you’ve done your job right. So if people are hating on Jeremiah, I hope Gavin’s proud of his work.”
Casalegno also defended his character, who cheats on Belly at the beginning of season three.
He told the publication, "Jeremiah is reckoning with the consequences of those mistakes, but at the root of their relationship, he cares deeply about Belly. I think trials and bumps in the road are a part of life and also the best relationships. How can something be valuable if it hasn’t been tested?"
