“What do you mean ‘we can’t get on’?”

Dermot Bannon is no Gordon Ramsay, but the show that we all know him from, Room to Improve, has a habit of bringing out the fiery side in those who feature in it. After all, if it makes Daniel O’Donnell angry, it could make anyone angry, right? While it’s normally his clients who become quite testy, it’s Dermot’s turn in this weekend’s episode, when he discovers that, while embarking on his next project in the seaside town of Portrane in Dublin, he is about to tick one major item off his architectural bucket list. On a boat trip, Dermot thinks he is about to set foot on Lambay Island, home of Lambay Castle, designed by his hero, Sir Edwin Lutyens. Until he finds out that he’s not because the island is private and not accessible to the public. Saying that Dermot throws the toys out of the pram upon learning that he’s not going to visit the island would be stretching things a little; his reaction is more akin to a teenager being told by their parents that they’re not allowed go to the disco.
