Coronation Street's Gemma and Chesney to discover their baby boy Aled is deaf.

The couple will get the life-changing news about their son in upcoming scenes, after they bring him in for medical tests. According to The Sun, the soap has worked with  Trafford Deaf Children's Society on the storyline. They also have taken advice from Great Ormond Street hospital to try and make the storyline as accurate as possible. Dr. Greg Nassar, the Head of Audiology services at Trafford General Hospital, is also advising Coronation Street on the storyline. "It's going to be heartbreaking for Gemma and Chesney to realise baby Aled has hearing problems," an insider told the publication. "The hope is that the storyline will raise awareness of how a family can cope with the diagnosis." "It will show how the family and doctors can help ensure Aled will lead as normal life as possible as he grows up," they continued. "While it will be heartbreaking at first, there will be many positive messages to come from it." "This is a very important story to tell and will resonate with many parents who have gone through their children being diagnosed with hearing problems and the challenges that this throws up for the child, the parents and the whole family," a spokesperson for the soap confirmed to the publication.
