Season two of the show is arriving this week

DAHMER reached one billion view hours in its first 60 days, becoming just the fourth Netflix series to achieve this milestone.

Following its success, Netflix announced in 2023 that a second Monster series was on the way, this time focusing on a different serial killer.

And now, series co-creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed that Charlie Hunnam will star in season 3, Variety reports.

Murphy made the announcement during a promotional event in Los Angeles for “Monster” Season 2.

He revealed that Hunnam will play 1950s serial killer Ed Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield. Along with his murders, Gein gained worldwide notoriety after it was discovered he had dug up graves from a cemetery near his home to make household items, clothes and masks from human remains.

Gein ended up being an inspiration for famous fictional killers such as Norman Bates in Psycho and Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs.

Hunnam will be known to many for his role as Jackson 'Jax' Teller in FX drama Sons of Anarchy.

He has also starred in films such as Pacific Rim, The Gentlemen and Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire.

Season 2 of Monster is set to land on Netflix on Thursday (September 19). Titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, the series will be looking at the crimes of two killers whose crimes made headlines across the US in the 1990s.

Lyle and Erik Menendez were two brothers who killed their parents in 1989 in a crime that captivated the US.

The brothers fatally shot their parents, 45-year-old father Jose and 47-year-old mother Kitty, in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. The pair shot their parents multiple times, with Lyle even going to his car to reload.

During their trials, they cited years of abuse as the reason for the murders, but prosecutors argued that their motive was to get their hands on the family fortune.

Lyle and Erik claimed they had been to see a movie on the night their parents were shot, and had found their bodies when they got back home.

Months after their parents were killed, Lyle and Erik made a number of big-money purchases, arousing the suspicion of the police who made them prime suspects.

But it was only when Erik confessed the crime to his psychologist, who then told his mistress who ended up going to the police, that the brothers were caught.

Both ended up being convicted of first-degree murder and were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The cast was confirmed earlier this year, with the likes of Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Cooper Koch, Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny set to star.
