If you're on Instagram or TikTok, you've surely scrolled upon the videos of a seemingly normal object or food item that's all of a sudden sliced with a knife - only to reveal it was actually a cake all along. It's honestly weird and pointless, but there's also something kind of addictive and satisfying about the whole thing. Now, Netflix has decided to take it one step further and somehow turn a trend made up of five second videos into an entire series. Is It Cake?, hosted by Saturday Night Live's Mikey Day, blends the concept with a good old-fashioned baking show. The streaming service announced the arrival of the new creation on Twitter, with the caption: "Finally, a show that answers the important questions..." https://twitter.com/NetflixUK/status/1500901693642481670 Over the course of eight 40-minute episodes, talented bakers will compete to create ultra-realistic cakes that look like everyday objects for a cash prize of $50,000. In order to win, they need to deceive a panel of expert celebrity judges including Queer Eye's Karamo Brown, singer Rebecca Black and TikTok sensation Brittany Broski. The official synopsis reads: "Skilled cake artists create mouthwatering replicas of handbags, sewing machines and more in a mind-bending baking contest inspired by a popular meme and hosted by Mikey Day. "Deception is the name of the game for the world’s most talented bakers who will compete to create hyperrealistic cakes that look exactly like everyday objects – with cash on the line. "But are they good enough to deceive a panel of celebrity judges… and you? You’ll be asking yourself ‘is it real?’ Or…Is It Cake?” In the trailer, one contestant can be heard saying: "What I do is the weirdest thing in the world. Like, there are people saving lives and I am making cake look like other things." Can't say we disagree! Is It Cake? arrives on Netflix on Friday 18 March.
