Brooklyn Nine-Nine has scrapped four planned episodes following the death of George Floyd. Producers of the critically acclaimed police sitcom made the decision following Floyd's death, an event that sparked weeks of protests across the globe and a resurgence in support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Floyd was killed in May when a police officer knelt on his neck for an extended period of time causing him to lose consciousness. He later died in police custody. Actor Terry Cruz, who plays Lieutenant Jeffords in the show, said this week that producers are planning something "groundbreaking" to address the ever present issue of police brutality in the States. "[We had] a lot of somber talks about it and deep conversations and we hope through this we’re going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year," he told Deadline "We have an opportunity here, and we plan to use it in the best way possible.” Showrunner Dan Goor said that four planned Brooklyn Nine-Nine episodes were thrown "in the trash" following Floyd's death last month. "We have to start over," he said. "Right now we don’t know which direction it’s going to go in.”
