The Princess Diaries 3 is officially happening

The movie that shaped many of our teenage years is finally in the works and we honestly cannot wait for it.

The Disney film holds a very special place in many of our hearts so knowing we're finally getting that third movie really means a lot.

Anne Hathaway confirmed she will return as Princess Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo.

But we simply need as many details as possible about the third installment.

The Princess Diaries 3 Cast

Anne Hathaway is officially returning as Mia but was there ever any doubt about that? There is no Princess Diaries without Anne Hathaway. However, no other cast members have been officially confirmed, but many have expressed their interest in being part of the project.

Chris Pine previously told Entertainment Tonight that he’d happily star in a third movie.

He shared: “Yeah, I’m here! I’m here for it. Give me give me a phone call or an email.”

The actor added: "I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it."

Another huge name we need to see return is Julie Andrews and we're not the only ones hoping she will star in the third movie.

Anne Hathaway previously told People: “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.”

Grey's Anatomy actress Sandra Oh is also eager to join the project.

She told Entertainment Weekly that she is dying to reprise her role as principal Gupta.

The former Grey’s Anatomy actress said: “I am ready for the Queen. Call me! I’m dying to see how Gupta has moved up in the world,” she shared.

The Director

The third installment is in very reliable hands with Adele Lim signing up to direct the Disney film.

Her previous work includes the incredible rom-com Crazy Rich Asians and Joy Ride.

She also worked on many TV series including One Tree Hill and Private Practice so we've got very high hopes.

Liam said it is an honour to be involved in such a legendary project.

She shared a statement after the third movie was officially confirmed last week.

"As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life.

"We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide," Lim added.

Hathaway will produce the third Princess Diaries movie.

Plot and Release Date

Many of us have been waiting quite some time for the third movie to be released, but there is some hopeful news about the release date.

The team is reportedly planning on filming the third installment next year so we could be watching The Princess Diaries 3 in cinemas in 2026 with any luck.

In the last movie, we see Mia officially take over from her grandmother as Queen of Genovia. As her life changes significantly, Mia also finds her true love in her former enemy Nicholas Devereaux.

20 years have now passed since the second movie aired, but what has happened to Mia in those two decades?

We'll just have to wait and see when everyone's favourite fairytale continues.
