While cinemas are notably quieter during the summer season, Netflix is not following the same rule. Yes, the streaming service is seriously upping its game as of late and we're all for it.
With many of our favourite shows returning for a new season over the last few weeks, there's also been many a great movie added also.
And while searching through them all might be an overwhelming task, we've taken steps to make it a little easier. Namely, doing all the hard work for you and picking out some of our favourites.
Here are nine movies you should consider throwing on tonight.
1. Home Again
Plot: A newly single mom takes in three young male filmmakers as boarders, but her estranged husband returns to complicate her new, unconventional life.
2. American Assasin
Plot: After grad student Mitch Rapp suffers a tragic loss during a terrorist attack, his single-minded thirst for vengeance catches the interest of the CIA.
3. Breathe
Plot: After being paralyzed by polio at the age of 28, Robin Cavendish refuses to be immobile and with his loyal wife, Diana, becomes an advocate for the disabled.
4. Scarface
Plot: Al Pacino stars as Cuban refugee Tony Montana, who becomes a Florida drug kingpin but makes the fatal mistake of getting high on his own supply.
5. The Impossible
Plot: Tracking one family’s harrowing experiences, this gripping drama depicts the chaos generated by the massive 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia.
6. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Plot: A shy freshman struggling with depression deals with his best friend’s suicide and his first love in this engaging coming-of-age tale.
7. The Butler
Plot: Presidents come and go, but he remains the one constant at the White House who’s always ready to serve.
8. The Shallows
Plot: After being bitten by a great white shark, a young surfer is stranded on a rock close to shore and must outwit the predator that stalks nearby.
9. Inglorious Basterds
Plot: A Jewish cinema owner in occupied Paris is forced to host a Nazi premiere, where a group of American soldiers called the Basterds plans a face-off.
