Sunday is a good day to turn into a movie day. And you've got plenty of options, between Bad Boys For Life, Just Mercy, and Bombshell all hitting the big screen this week (our reviews right here), as well as some crackers on the small screen to enjoy, beginning with: SUNDAY 19 JANUARY Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End - ITV2 - 5.45pm The third (of five?) is most certainly not the worst of the lot, as it features some startling imagery of Jack Sparrow stuck in some kind of pirate purgatory, and ending with a huge multi-ship shoot-out. It was also, for a spell, the single most expensive movie ever made ($300m, but it was usurped by 2011's 4th Pirates movie, which cost $379m), and to be fair, all of the money really is up there on the screen to see. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen - FilmFour - 6.50pm A movie that really wasn't bad enough to warrant Sean Connery to retire from movies (yep, he hasn't been on the big screen since this came out in 2003), it is a bit of an oddball old-school superhero movie. The special effects haven't aged well, but there is something very quirky about it that makes it very endearing. Windtalkers - ITV4 - 9pm Nic Cage teams up with the director of Face/Off again for this WWII epic about a U.S. marine assigned to protect a Najavo code-breaker who was recruited to help communicate in code languages. Sisters - RTE Two - 9pm Tina Fey and Amy Poehler throw a big house party in their parent's house before they get a chance to sell it. It is grown ups acting like randy teengers, and we're here for that. Hellboy II: The Golden Army - Comedy Central - 9pm All you have to do is look at the 2019 reboot to see how badly this character can be handled, so best go back and enjoy this superior sequel from eventual Oscar-winning director Guillermo Del Toro. White House Down - Syfy - 9pm The less-violent of the Die-Hard-In-The-White-House duo (the other, more-violent one being Olympus Has Fallen), this one sees wannabe Secret Service agent Channing Tatum suddenly trying to protect President Jamie Foxx from a terrorist group arriving in Washington. Son Of Saul - BBC Two - 11pm Winner of Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 2016 Academy Awards, this incredibly powerful movie tells the story of a Jewish-Hungarian concentration camp prisoner sets out to give a child he mistook for his son a proper burial. An absolute must-watch. Gangster Squad - ITV4 - 11.40pm Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie and more star in this glossy-but-shallow story about a secret crew of LAPD officers assigned to take down the city-running gangster Mickey Cohen.
