In case you haven't heard, The Good Place is back.
And we're very, very excited - especially after that cliffhanger at the end of season two.
The comedy series tells the story of Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell), who dies and goes to the afterlife called “The Good Place”…only to find out they have mistaken her for someone else.
She decides that she wants to fit in with the rest of the residents of The Good Place, and seeks to become a better person with the help of her afterlife mentor and soulmate, Chidi (William Jackson Harper).
And while the two series' of the show has come and gone, it’s recently been added to Netflix - with new episodes from season 3 being added weekly, so it’s easier than ever to catch up with.
Here's five reasons you should be watching The Good Place...
1. It’s hilarious
Eleanor's journey to becoming good, through her soulmate/confidante Chidi is at the centre of most of the show's journey - but it's not all the show has to offer.
D'Arcy Carden manages to never get old as the Siri-style Janet, an all-knowing humanoid designed to answer residents' questions about anything and everything.
Jameela Jamil, who plays Eleanor's frenemy and neighbour Tahani, shows off her perfect comedic timing in her acting debut.
And Parks and Recreation's Adam Scott makes a brief but hilarious guest appearance as the leader of The Bad Place.
2. Kristen Bell is the ideal anti-heroine
Kristen Bell as Eleanor Shellstrop is the anti-heroine you want to root for.
The role is a huge departure from Veronica Mars, but Bell really proves she’s a comedic chameleon and absolutely shines as the morally dubious Arizona native.
Eleanor may have been selfish, immature, and occasionally cruel - but watching her try to learn to better herself makes you hope she can actually stay in The Good Place.
Especially once viewers find out what The Bad Place actually is…
3. There’s nothing quite like it on TV
The Good Place is like nothing else on television at the moment.
While the offbeat premise guarantees plenty of belly laughs, the series’ creator Michael Schur makes sure the series toes the fine line between the sunny setting and the dark, otherworldly underbelly of The Good Place.
And, amid the laughter, there’s plenty of low-key heavy moments - particularly when the central characters reflect on their previous lives.
4. The very carefully (and excellently) crafted world
From the opening moments of The Good Place, viewers are introduced to a world with strict and established rules.
The Good Place has a variety of perfectly calibrated neighbourhoods, each with 322 carefully selected people.
It’s so perfectly crafted that if anything goes wrong, for example, someone who doesn’t belong there moves in, there can be some pretty catastrophic results.
And there’s no swearing in The Good Place - but there’s plenty of G-rated gems of catchphrases like “what the fork?” and “bullshirt!”
5. The twists and turns (and more twists)
We’re not going to spoil it - don’t worry.
But the final moments of season one left everyone’s jaws on the floor - including the cast members (Kristen Bell made sure to catch their reactions on film), and it’s easy to see why.
And at the end of season two, they managed to out-do themselves - so we can't wait to see what The Good Place will do next and how it’ll change things going forward.
