The Pogues frontman sadly passed away last week on Thursday, November 30th.

In the emotional statement, Shane's family revealed how fans of the singer can pay their respects and say their 'final farewell' before he is laid to rest.

"Shane MacGowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke, his father Maurice, sister Siobhan, and wider family would like to thank everyone for the enormous outpouring of affection and messages of condolence they have received since his passing," the post reads.

"Knowing that people might wish to have the opportunity to say a final farewell, on Friday 8th December from 11.00 am, Shane’s funeral cortege will pass through the streets of Dublin.

"The Gardaí have asked that people wishing to pay their final respects to Shane gather on the footpath along this route.

The family also took the opportunity to extend their gratitude for the outpouring of love they have received in the wake of Shane's passing.

"Shane’s family are thankful for the many people that loved him as a musician, songwriter, and champion of Ireland and its culture and hope they are in some way repaying that loyalty by giving those that loved and admired him a chance to wish him God Speed and say Slán.”

The musician's coffin will be taken by horse-drawn carriage and led by the Artane Band and a piper between Ringsend and Pearse Street from 10.30 am to 11.45 am on Friday, December 8th.

According to a report by RTÉ, the procession will begin in Ringsend at 10.30 am, close to where the singer resided with his beloved wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, in Ballsbridge.

The coffin will arrive by hearse at the car park of the Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium and from there it will be placed onto a horse-drawn carriage and led by the Artane Band and a piper onto South Lotts Road.

From there, it will make its way across McMahon Bridge and down Pearse Street to the junction of Lombard Street East and Westland Row.

It will continue down Westland Row and Lincoln Place into Fenian Street before arriving at Denzille Lane where the coffin will be placed back into the hearse in private.

The funeral procession for Shane is expected to last approximately an hour and a quarter.

Shane's funeral mass, which is open to the public, will be held in his native town of Nenagh in Co. Tipperary at St Mary of the Rosary Church.

The wife of The Pogues frontman says he should be remembered through acts of kindness.

"If you want to remember him, the next time you see a homeless person stop and give them your time and your compassion and your respect and treat them like a brother or a sister," Victoria wrote.
