"My prognosis is great. I'm in remission. Stem cell put me in remission."
Actress Selma Blair has given a positive update on her health after undergoing treatment for multiple sclerosis.
Blair initially received her diagnosis in 2018, however, she now says that she is "in remission", and that her current prognosis is "great".
The actress received chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant to treat the chronic illness which affects the body's central nervous system.
Selma gave the update at the Television Critics Association Panel, where she spoke about the upcoming documentary, Introducing, Selma Blair.
At the virtual event, she said: "My prognosis is great. I'm in remission. Stem cell put me in remission.
"It took about a year after stem cell for the inflammation and lesions to really go down. I was reluctant to talk about it because I felt this need to be more healed and more fixed."
She added that her experience with the illness and her recovery gave her a new lease on life.
"People took great care of me," she said. "I never really like life. I do now."
She continued: "Just because life's so weird. I was so scared in life. To suddenly start to find an identity and a safety in me, to figure out boundaries, time management and energy. I'm having the time of my life."
Selma acknowledged that she had support and care that is not available to many multiple sclerosis patients, and that it can be "very isolating". She reiterated the difference to care of her friends and family made.
According to Discovery+, Introducing, Selma Blair will follow the actress as she "reckons with the next chapter of her life after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis".
The synopsis claims that the film will explore "complex issues ranging from dissecting deep-rooted myths about beauty, and the collective fear around disability and mortality".
